"It always seem impossible until it is done"--Nelson Mandela.
It was a resounding success as we kickstarted the Basic Employability Skills Training for Persons with Disabilities (Project BEST-4-PWDs) in commemoration of the International Day for Persons with Disabilities 2018.

This year's theme is focused on Empowering Persons with Disabilities and Ensuring Inclusion and Equality. The BEST4PWDs is a partnership project and a continuous capacity development program for our community of PWds. The program was held on Tuesday 4th of December, 2018 in Ibadan, Nigeria.
The workshop centred on developing Self-Motivation and Leadership competencies, and leveraging on Digital Skills to Fastrack Career Success. There was also a profound session on Job-Readiness(CV, Cover Letter Writing and acing Job Interviews), and portfolio development for job seekers and young business owners living with disabilities.large.
In attendance were 50 Persons with Disabilities, 4 Facilitators, 5 Mentors and 10 Volunteers.
We had some of the best hands on this program. Trainees were certified and 15 out of the trainees have gotten internship support to consolidate their knowledge. Others will be placed on a continuous online training on specific business skills and attached to mentors for a professional development program. We are glad that our facilitators offered to mentor our community of PWDs based on their career and business needs. The facilitators were awarded a certificate of honour for their leadership roles in developing the PWDs in our society at large
However, participants at the workshop were also awarded certificate of attendance. There was also tea break in the course of the workshop as refreshments, and lunch packs were given to participants as takeaways. The workshop lasted for about six hours; participants learning, networking, developing capacity and finding clarity for their business and career lives.
Our next workshop will be in January 2019.
Special thanks to our facilitators, volunteers, mentors, participants and partners. Our goal is reach and impact 500 youth with disabilities, connect them to decent jobs and ensure they become productive members of the society. We welcome sponsorship, partnership and donations towards the achievement of our goal.
BEST-4-PWDs Project is a joint partnership between Youth Aid Development Foundation, Angel Wings Global Freedom Foundation, American Corner Ibadan and One Voice Initiative for Women and Children Emancipation.

It’s great to see a focus on practical skills like CV writing and interview preparation. For those looking locally, I wonder how accessible job readiness training providers in Albury are for people with different abilities? It would be interesting to hear others’ experiences.
