The All-Nigeria United Nations Student and Youth Association(ANUNSA) Organizes Children's General Assembly and Debate

ANUNSA-U.I CHILDREN'S GENERAL ASSEMBLY

The All Nigeria United Nations Students and Youths Association (ANUNSA) is a nongovernmental students and Youths Association dedicated to building of students and youths to be responsible citizens with the ultimate aim of achieving World Peace, Social Justice and Sustainable Development. ANUNSA Propagate the Ideals and simulate the workings of the United Nations as a basis for achieving peace for mankind, and greatly identifies with the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) now Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).


The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) constitute an integrated, indivisible set of global priorities for sustainable development. They are action oriented, global in nature and universally applicable. They are set to build on the foundation laid by the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and to respond to new challenges.

ANUNSA, University of Ibadan, towards the magnitude of achieving this held an Oratory Contest, where 17 Secondary Schools were to speak on each of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals at the ANUNSA-U.I Children's General Assembly (CGA), which was held on 20th November, 2015 to commemorate the United Nations Universal Children’s Day celebrated every 20th November.

The theme for the event was "How Students and Youths Can Practically Promote the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals". Secondary Schools Students were to speak on the topic "Demystify How Students and Youths Can Practically Promote the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals", giving each of the 17 UN SDGs to the different Schools.

Special guests and judges from the University of Ibadan who were present at the event include Kareem Tawakalit, Former President, UCJ, U.I; Alayande Ayantola, PRO, Students' Union, U.I; Okwakpam Emery, President NIGMUNS, U.I; Adeyemo Tomiwa, President, BNI, U.I; Ibrahim Khadija, President, AIESEC, U.I, Temitope Gideon; Adebajo Olayinka, President, FASSA, U.I; among others.

Mrs. Bolaji Bayode Ajibade, the Senior Advert Executive, who represented the Editor-in-Chief, The Youth Newspaper exposed participants awareness and succinctly explained how students and youth can work together towards realising each of the goals.

Olaniyi Divine,13 years old, SS1 who represented Pathfinder College, Samonda, Ibadan in the Oratory Contest spoke on the UN SDG 1, and took the first position scoring 75%,

Okeke Victor, SS3, 15years Old, who represented Aderoyal Group of Schools, Mokola, Ibadan spoke on the UN SDG4, and came the first runner-up scoring 69.6% while Ojo Oyindamola, SS3, 15years old, who represented The Sterling College, Mokola, Ibadan came third position with 69.3%.

After the announcement of the results, Ayo David ADEYEMI, President, ANUNSA-U.I urged the students to go back to their domain and strategize on how the points in which they have suggested can be practically developed to ensure the achievement of the UN SDGs for the benefit of a better world.

Before the close of the event, Miss Famoyegun Joy Dorcas from Amazing Love Concepts focusing the students discussed factors to be considered when selecting a course of study in an higher institution as well as the choice for a carrier.

Ceremony for the Awards presentation would be held at the University of Ibadan on 15th December at the Programme for the ANUNSA-U.I Commemoration of the United Nations 70th Anniversary where the Director, United Nations Information Centre, Lagos would present certificates and awards to the students.
